Science Class Procedures

q      It is important for all of us to know and to follow the procedures for a smooth operation of our homeroom.

q      When the procedures are explained and practiced, students know what is expected of them.

q      If need arises, these procedures might be modified, or new ones might be added.

General Procedures

  • Homework will be written on the board and posted on the school website.
  • Bring to class every day:
    1. Textbook - covered
    2. Science journal (composition book) – used only for science, neat writing in blue or black ink. Will be checked periodically.
    3. Green binder (1" thick )– to file papers. Will be checked periodically.
    4. Pens, pencils, notebook paper, ruler (with centimeters), colored pencils, scissors, glue, index cards.
    5. Assignment book to record homework assignments.
  • Your textbook has to be covered at all times. It is also available online:

Sixth Grade:

  • Go to http://www.glencoe.com/sec/science/
  • Select “Texas” and “Student”, enter
  • Select “Texas Science Grade 6”
  • Click on “Online Student Edition”, then choose “Full Version”
  • User name is TXG06  (0 is a zero)
  • Password She5rehuDr

Seventh Grade:

  • Go to http://www.glencoe.com/sec/science/
  • Enter “Texas”
  • Select user “Student”, click on “enter”
  • Click on “Texas Science Grade 7”
  • Click on “Online Student Edition”, then choose “Full version”
  • User name is TXG07  (0 is a zero)

  Grading

Tests- 40%; Labs and Quizzes-35%; Homework , Classwork– 25%

Late homework will receive a grade of 70 if it is turned in the next day, and a grade of 50 if it is turned in after that.

  • Any time you turn in papers, please place your science class number in the upper right hand corner. 
  • If you need to get in touch with me with any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at jankowskio@sfdsschool.org.
  • If you have any concerns, problems or complaints relating to anything in science class, please talk to me. I will respectfully listen to you, so that the situation you are concerned with could be resolved.

When you enter the classroom, please

  • Go to your assigned seat.
  • Place your books under the desk.
  • Put your science journal, science folder and science book on the desk.
  • Look for an assignment posted on the board, or on the overhead projector.
  • Start working on the assignment.

During Science class, you often will be working with a partner, or with a group.

  • Sometimes you will choose people to work with; sometimes you will be assigned partners. Regardless of that, you will cheerfully and respectfully cooperate with your team.
  • You are to stay on task most of the time. 
  • Please use low voices.
  • Even though you will be working as a group, you will be responsible for your own work.

At the end of the class

  • Make sure you have recorded homework assignment.
  • Please pick up any trash near your desk.
  • Please stay in your seat until the teacher dismisses you.

After school assistance

  • I will gladly help you with you science work.
  • Talk to me to schedule the time after school.
  • If your parents are picking you up, they will need to come into the classroom for you to be dismissed.
