Homeroom Procedures

q      It is important for all of us to know and to follow the procedures for a smooth operation of our homeroom.

q      When the procedures are explained and practiced, students know what is expected of them.

q      If need arises, these procedures might be modified, or new ones might be added.

Schedule

q      Middle school schedule has eight periods every day.

q      The time the periods begin and end may vary, depending on whether it is a regular day, early dismissal day, Mass day, or special events day. In other words, you will always have eight periods, but how long they last, or what time they begin might differ. Actual times for beginning and end of period are displayed on the board.

q      Middle school lunch is always at 12:00 noon.

General Procedures

q      During homeroom time, always use low voices. The noise level should not be higher than that in a library.

q      Always ask for permission if you need to leave the room.

q      When you need to leave the classroom, you have to sign out. The sign out log is located by the door. Legibly record your name, time out and time in. First person to use the log in the morning needs to enter the date. If you are going somewhere besides the bathroom, record your destination on the right margin.

q      Teacher’s sign for silence is going to be a raised hand. As soon as you see it, raise your hand and stop talking. Sometimes, a bell or another noise-making device would be used as a signal for silence.

q      Any time announcements come on, you should freeze and listen in silence.

Lockers

During the school day, you will go to the lockers four times. There are two locker groups – red and blue. Each week the group to go first will switch.

In the morning you will unpack your backpack, put everything in the locker, and get everything you need for the first three periods. Only one locker group will be at the lockers at a time.

q      After third period, you will have a locker break to get things for periods four and five.

q      At lunchtime, put your books on the floor near your locker or on your desk. You will get all your materials for periods six, seven and eight after lunch.

q      After eighth period, you will pack up to go home.

Your locker should be locked at all times. Your nametag should stay on the locker at all times. Do not touch other students’ lockers or locks.

Teacher’s desk

q      Teacher’s desk is off-limits to students. Students are not allowed to touch anything on it. Students are not allowed in the area behind teacher’s desk.

q      Teacher’s computer is never to be touched, no matter where it is.

Hallways

We have silent hallways. That means that there is no talking in the hallways while switching classes.

q      Walk on the right hand side of the hallway.

q      Do not touch the walls or displays on the walls or bulletin boards.

q      Face the direction you are going.

q      Do not enter classrooms without teachers’ permission.

q      No running is allowed.

q      Please hold the door for the person walking behind you.

Morning Procedure

q      Gather in the area between the gate and cafeteria door.

q      When you see the teachers, line up along the bushes.

q      As you enter the building, be silent. Walk on the right hand side of the hallway.

q      Stop by the classroom door, and wait for the teacher.

q      Upon entering the room, go directly to your seat.

q      You may talk quietly while in your seat, until you see the teacher going to the front of the room. At this time. Please stop talking and listen.

q      The teacher will address the class, and ask the attendance helper to fill out the attendance slip. It will be placed outside the door.

q      The locker helper then will call the first locker group to go to the lockers.  At this time you need to start unpacking. Place the lunches on the shelf in the cabinet. You may also sign up for lunch at this time. Locker helper then calls for the second locker group.

q     As soon as you have everything you need for the first three periods, go to your desk.

q      About 8:05 announcements will begin. Whether in the morning, or any time announcements come on, you are to freeze and be silent.

q      After announcements, the prayer leader will lead class in prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance will follow. The teacher will dismiss you to your first period.

Lunch

q      Upon returning to the classroom before lunch, put down your books on the floor in front of the lockers or on your desk. Then you need to line up single file along the lockers. Every other week, four of our students will be responsible for cafeteria clean up.

q      Prayer leader will lead class in prayer, unless you prayed before returning to the home room. The teacher will send you to the cafeteria.

q      You will follow the hallway procedure.

q      If you are buying lunch, you will go to the door closest to kitchen.

q      You will follow all cafeteria procedures.

q      Teacher on duty will dismiss each table individually.

q      After lunch, you will gather in the area between the cafeteria door and kitchen door.

q      As soon as you see one or both of your teachers, line up along the cafeteria wall.

q      Upon returning to the classroom, you will go to the lockers.

q      At 12:45, go to your next class.

Afternoon homeroom

  •   When you return to the homeroom, go to the lockers if you are in the first locker group; otherwise, go to your seat.

q      As soon as you are packed go back to your seat.

q      Make sure that there is no trash on the floor anywhere around your desk.

q   The teacher will tell you when you can get up and line up for the departure.
