Measurements Review

Objectives: the students will

  • understand the importance and convenience of SI (metric system)
  • accurately measure length
  • calculate volume of a rectangular object and use displacement method for calculating volume of irregular object
  • distinguish between mass and weight and accurately measure both
  • compare Celsius, Kelvin and Fahrenheit temperature scales
  • display data in a graph, choosing a line, bar or circular graph depending on the type of data

Tuesday 9-8 Discuss science fair ideas; Sign, correct ch.1 test; sign the science fair paper . Corrections: notebook paper, copy question, give complete answer.
Wednesday 9-9 Explore activity chapter 2 p. 41. Discuss and practice measuring length.

Read p. 50-52. Sec. 2 Assessment #7 p.54. This question might be difficult, but if you read the text you should be able to do it. If you try and cannot do it, it is OK, we will look at it in class.

Start working on a Measurement chart (due Tuesday 9-15) to organize information in ch.2 sec. 2. Should include:

  • title with International System in it
  • pictures and information about measuring length, volume, mass, temperature and time (definitions, units, tools)
